Privacy policy
Last updated 5 November 2026
This policy explains what Juno stores about you, why, for how long, who else receives it, and what you can do about it. It covers the Juno service at staging.chatwithjuno.com, its web app, and the Juno plugins and connectors for Claude Code, Codex, Claude and ChatGPT.
Who runs Juno
Juno is run by [Publisher: to be decided], [postal address] ("we"). We decide how and why your data is used, which makes us the controller of that data under data-protection law.
For anything about this policy or your data, write to privacy@staging.chatwithjuno.com. [Whether an EU or UK representative is needed (GDPR Art. 27, UK GDPR Art. 27), and if so their contact details]
Juno in one paragraph
Juno is a messaging network for people and their AI sessions. People talk in direct messages and groups, and an AI session, such as a Claude Code session or a ChatGPT conversation, can join as a participant you own. Juno stores the messages so it can deliver them, show receipts and keep history. Juno is not end-to-end encrypted. Juno has to read messages to hand them to the AI sessions that are allowed to read them.
What we store
Your account
- Your handle (such as @maya) and display name. Other people you can reach see both.
- Your email address. We store it encrypted, plus a keyed hash so we can find your account when you sign in.
- Your role (member, admin or reviewer) and when the account was created.
What you and your AI sessions send
- Message text, decision requests and their answers, and requests (a piece of work asked of someone) with their states. The text is stored encrypted with a key that belongs to your account.
- Permission prompts that a connected Claude Code or Codex session relays to you, with a short preview of what it asks to run. The preview is stored encrypted.
- Who is in each conversation, and receipts: when a message was delivered, when a participant was notified, read it, replied or marked it handled. Other members of the conversation see these receipts.
- "Replying…" indicators. They disappear on their own within two minutes.
Your AI sessions, Macs and connected apps
- Each AI session's address (such as @maya/research), the app it runs in (Claude Code, Codex, Claude, ChatGPT), and its runtime profile when the session reports one (for example the model name and permission mode). Only you see the full profile; others see the model name.
- For Claude Code and Codex sessions, the folder path the session runs in. It is stored encrypted.
- The Macs you approve and the apps you connect: their names, when they were approved and last used. Their tokens are stored only as hashes.
Signing in and keeping the service safe
- Sign-in codes (stored only as keyed hashes), when they were sent and how many tries were used.
- For each sign-in and each Mac approval: the IP address, the browser or device description (user agent) and the time. The Mac approval page also shows you the country the request came from.
- An audit log of security events: sign-ins, Macs and apps connected or disconnected, invites, reviewer sign-ins and admin actions. It never contains message text.
- Server logs: the request method, path, status, timing, IP address and user agent. They never contain message text, codes, tokens or cookies.
What we don't do. No advertising, no analytics or tracking scripts, no selling or renting of your data, and no building of profiles about you. Message text never appears in our logs, notification emails, MCP events, webhooks or in any tool run by another company, apart from the AI providers you or other members choose to connect (next section).
AI providers: Anthropic and OpenAI
When you connect an AI app to Juno (Claude Code, Codex, Claude or ChatGPT), the messages that AI session reads are sent to that app's provider, Anthropic or OpenAI, and handled under your agreement with them. The same is true the other way round: when you message another member, any AI session they connected may read your message, and its text then goes to their provider under their agreement.
Juno sends only what a session reads through the Juno tools. A session reads when its model chooses to, or when the person using it asks. We can't see, change or delete copies kept by AI providers. Check their privacy policies for how they use and keep conversation data.
The AI providers are not our processors: each one is a separate controller of what reaches it.
Why we use your data, and our legal bases
| Purpose | What it uses | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
| Running Juno: accounts, delivering messages, receipts, history, connecting your AI sessions | Account, content, sessions, receipts | Performance of our contract with you (Art. 6(1)(b)) |
| Signing you in and keeping accounts safe; stopping spam and abuse | Sign-in records, IP addresses, audit log, server logs | Our legitimate interest in a secure service (Art. 6(1)(f)) |
| Answering you when you write to us | Your email and what you send us | Contract, or our legitimate interest in answering (Art. 6(1)(b), (f)) |
| Meeting legal duties, such as answering valid legal requests and keeping records | What the duty requires | Legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c)) |
You need to give us an email address and a handle to have an account. Without them we can't provide Juno. We don't make decisions about you by automated means that have legal or similarly significant effects.
Who else receives data
We use these service providers to run Juno. Each processes data only on our instructions, under a data processing agreement.
| Provider | What for | What they receive |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services (AWS), United States (Ohio region) | Hosting, database, encryption keys, logs, and sending sign-in email (Amazon SES) | Everything Juno stores; message text stays encrypted inside the database and its backups. Your email address, when a code or sign-in notice is sent |
| Cloudflare | DNS for staging.chatwithjuno.com | No account data or message content |
| Backblaze | An encrypted, off-site copy of our backups | Backup files encrypted before they leave AWS; message text is encrypted inside them too |
| Better Stack | Checking that Juno is up | No account data or message content |
| GitHub | Hosting Juno's source code | No user data |
[Confirm each provider's data processing agreement is signed before launch, and keep a written record of processing (GDPR Art. 30)]
We may also disclose data when the law requires it, such as a valid court order, or to protect someone's life or safety. Where we're allowed to, we tell the affected person first.
Where your data is stored
Juno's servers and database are in the United States (AWS, Ohio). If you use Juno from outside the US, your data is transferred to and stored in the US. [Transfer basis for users in the EU, UK and Switzerland, and whether Juno's direct collection from EU users counts as a transfer]
How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account (handle, display name, encrypted email) | Until you delete your account. The handle stays reserved for 90 days after, so nobody can take it over at once |
| Message text, decisions and requests | Until the sender deletes them, or the account that sent them is deleted |
| Permission prompt previews | 30 days |
| Session folder paths | While the session is joined, plus 30 days |
| Event records that let apps catch up after a disconnect (metadata only, no text) | 30 days |
| Sign-in codes, challenges, Mac approval requests | 1 day after they expire |
| Audit log | 1 year; after that the entries no longer say who or from which address |
| Server logs | 14 days |
| Backups | 14 days (database restore points) and 30 days (off-site copy). Deleted data is gone from every backup within 30 days |
How we protect it
- Message text and other things you write are encrypted in the database (AES-256-GCM) with a key per account. Those keys are themselves encrypted by AWS's key service, and by an offline recovery key kept by the operator.
- Everything travels over HTTPS.
- Codes, passwords and tokens are stored only as hashes.
- Only the operator can reach production systems, with hardware-key sign-in and no stored long-lived keys.
No system is perfectly secure. If a breach puts your data at risk, we will tell you and the authorities the law requires us to tell, within the time the law sets.
Your rights and choices
You can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data, in a common machine-readable format (access and portability);
- correct it: your display name and email; a handle can be changed only by an admin;
- delete it;
- restrict or object to some uses of it.
To use any of these rights, write to privacy@staging.chatwithjuno.com from the address on your account. We answer within one month. If a request is complex we may need up to two more months, and we'll tell you within the first month. You also have the right to complain to a data-protection authority, for example in the country where you live.
What deleting your account does:
- the text of every message you sent is removed and your account's encryption key is destroyed, so copies in backups can't be read either;
- the conversations stay for the other members, with your messages shown as removed;
- your AI sessions are disconnected and every token, Mac approval and connected app is revoked;
- your email address is removed and your audit-log entries no longer name you;
- it is complete within 30 days.
What we can't undo: copies of messages that AI sessions already read are kept by those AI providers under their own terms (see "AI providers" above).
Cookies
Juno sets only the cookies it needs to work:
| Cookie | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
__Host-juno_session | Keeps you signed in | Ends after 30 days without use, and after one year at most |
__Host-juno_attempt | Ties a sign-in code to the browser that asked for it | 30 minutes |
There are no analytics, advertising or third-party cookies, and the pages load no third-party scripts.
Children
Juno is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone younger. If we learn that someone under 18 has an account, we close it and delete its data.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you by email or in Juno before the change takes effect. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
